HCG Diet May Work For You

What is HCG?

HCG stands for human chorionic gonadotropin. This is a hormone which is produced during pregnancy that affects the hypothalamus, the organ that lies directly above the pituitary gland. Signals from these two organs cause widespread effects on many cells and tissues.

Over 50 years ago an endocrinologist named Dr. Simeon was studying pregnant women in India and overweight young men with pituitary problems. He noted that in both cases fat was burned rather than lean muscle tissue. He deduced that HCG must signal the hypothalamus to consume excessive adipose (fatty tissue) deposits. Soon after, HCG was used to change the metabolism of those who wanted to lose weight.

HCG Diet Plan

The HCG diet plan is a stringent system that consists of three rudiments: first, you take doses of HCG; secondly, you consume 500 calories per day, eating lots of fruits and vegetables; and third, light exercise. This regime lasts for 40 days. Then the HCG is stopped, daily intake of calories is slowly increased with healthy foods and exercise is escalated.

Fruits and vegetables are encouraged because they are high in fiber. 500 calories is not a lot, however these foods help you feel full and are good for overall health. Lean meats and other high protein foods are incorporated in the HCG diet which begins a life-long habit of making good choices.

A prescription is needed for HCG, and it is recommended you have the supervision and oversight of a doctor. Most people tend to lose weight on the HCG diet.
